Ethical Guidelines and Practices

NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct Position Statements  (webpage) – Developed through a consensus-building approach, the position statements are based on evidence from research, theory, and practice and are used to build understanding and support for issues related to early childhood education. National Education Association: Code of Ethics for Educators  (webpage) – The National Education Association (NEA) created a Code of Ethics for Educators for the purpose of meeting the unique needs of all students. NEA uses the term educators to include both people with the professional title of educator and people who serve in positions that support education.

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI): Wisconsin Educator Preparation Standards  (webpage) – The Wisconsin Educator Standards outline characteristics of good educators by identifying the components and defining qualities of best professional practice. These standards are categorized by Teacher Standards, Administrator Standards, and Pupil Services Standards.

Division for Early Childhood for the Council of Exceptional Children: Position Statement on Ethical Practice  (webpage) – The Division for Early Childhood for the Council of Exceptional Children’s (DEC) Position Statement of Ethical Practices was created to support sound ethical decision-making and enhance the optimal development for young children at risk for developmental delays. The position statement details ethical practices by describing core principles and their relation to professional and individual roles.

Wisconsin State Legislature: Chapter PI 34 EDUCATOR LICENSES  (webpage) – These statutes include information on educator, administrator, and pupil services professional standards.
