Health, Safety, and Nutrition

About

Health, Safety, and Nutrition (SAF) is 1 of the 12 content areas identified within the 2014 WI Core Competencies for Professionals Working with Young Children and their Families. This competency focuses on professionals establishing and maintaining environments and supports that promote children’s health, safety, nutrition, physical activity, and adaptations for special needs in partnership with families.

It is important that professionals work in partnership with families & community partners to provide safe, healthy & active opportunities and experiences. This includes a comprehensive & inclusive approach to learning and development that recognizes the interrelationships among health, mental health, safety, nutrition, physical activity, & the ability of a child to learn and grow in the context of family & community.
