About
Guidance and Nurturing (GUI) is 1 of the 12 content areas identified within the 2014 WI Core Competencies for Professionals Working with Young Children and their Families. This competency focuses on professionals understanding supportive strategies for encouraging social/ emotional development and addressing challenging behaviors and recognizing the influence of temperament and emotional regulation capacity on children’s behavior.
Positive relationships & supportive interactions are the foundations for work with young children. All early care & education professionals need to have the skills and dispositions to develop meaningful & responsive relationships with children so that they can increase their social competence, form friendships & interact with others in healthy ways.
