About
The resources provided in this suite of pages can be used by program administrators, principals, T/TA providers, & other leaders in early care and education to meet the professional development needs of the professionals who support young learners. Although the resources may differ in style, format, and time needed to complete, the goal of each resource is to ensure that all professionals have the skills, knowledge, attitudes, & resources so that all children can be healthy, nurtured, safe, and secure.
Consider the following principles of adult learning when providing professional development:
- Understand the content before you facilitate the learning of others
- Recognize adults are internally motivated and self-directed
- Create a welcoming and connecting atmosphere for learning
- Respect diverse talents and ways of learning
- Honor life experiences and prior knowledge
- Plan for active learning (visual, auditory and kinesthetic)
- Explain acronyms and abbreviations
- Promote concrete and practical applications of content
- Provide goal setting opportunities relevant to setting and role
As an adult learner yourself, as well as a professional development provider, jot down other ideas that are meaningful and relevant to you in your learning or teaching.
